VSE Corporation’s new president and CEO realized the organization lacked a clear succession management plan and the agility to make good, fast decisions.
When the new president and CEO came onboard in 2008, four group presidents were on the verge of retiring, and the organization lacked a solid succession plan to fill these critical roles. He also observed that leaders lacked the agility needed to match the quick pace of the company.
Working with PDI Ninth House, VSE implemented a rigorous program to develop leaders, create a solid succession management program, and turn the culture into one of collaboration and strategic risk taking.
Beyond working on personal development, participants kicked off initiatives that are guiding the future of the company, including strategic planning, risk resiliency, and agility. The CEO now has at least three candidates he is confident bringing to the board as possible CEO successors.
