Expertise

Charlotte Gerstner is Vice President and Consulting Director in PDI Ninth House’s San Francisco office. With more than 15 years of experience in employee selection and assessment, Charlotte knows how to use data to drive change at the organizational level. At the individual level, Charlotte is an experienced coach, helping her clients actualize their leadership potential. She has held several roles within PDI Ninth House, including assessment practice leader for the Eastern region of the US and Managing Director of the Switzerland office, based in Geneva. Charlotte has published articles on leadership in the Journal of Applied Psychology and the Leadership Quarterly and has presented on the topic at professional conferences.

Results Achieved

  • A client in the manufacturing industry came to PDI Ninth House because they did not have enough leaders ready to fill the critical role of Plant Manager. Charlotte worked with the client to create a role profile, conduct in-depth assessments in collaboration with client executives, and facilitate succession planning discussions. As a result, the time to fill openings was significantly reduced, as was their dependence on external hires. The diversity of people promoted was also enhanced, including the first high potential woman to be promoted into the role.
  • A client in the transportation industry came to PDI Ninth House because their future success was at risk due to the high number of retirements in senior leaders planned for the coming five years, the lack of a strong leadership bench, and the changing business context. Charlotte led a team of PDI Ninth House consultants in defining the leadership success criteria for the future and creating a fully customized assessment process to reflect the new challenges. As a result, senior leaders gained a much clearer picture of those who were ready for expanded roles and how to accelerate the development of potential new leaders.

Partnering Advantage

Charlotte enjoys helping clients create talent management systems that are easy to implement and provide the data necessary to make the best decisions. When working with individuals, she provides direct feedback in a supportive environment where clients feel comfortable experimenting with new and expanded skills.
